Menu of National Highway 44

Menu is the USP. People who are used to the standard restaurant menu might get a bit confusing at first. Menu is divided in states cuisine. Each state gets its own starters and main menu. Desert options are clubbed at the end. National Highway 44 gets full marks for variety. Menu begins with wazawan dishes like Rista and Goshtaba and Jammu Rajmah. It moves to Punjab with Maharaja Patiala Sword Kebab, Pinddi Channa and Saag meat. Next comes Delhi with four pages of menu. Sikandari Raan is an interesting item on the menu. And so is Laal Maas! In the Maharastra, Gujarat and Goa section we have tasties like pav bhaji, vada pav and kheema pav. No mains here. We then straight way head to the south section which has Rasaam, mutton kheema dosa and chilli chicken dosa along with the usual fare. Rassam is the welcome drink for all. Non veg variations of dosa are very interesting and not available at many places in Delhi. Also note there is a full bar available. And no hukkah or sheesha. Thank God! But there is a smoking area available as per the restaurant listing on Zomato.

About the food at National Highway 44

Rassam is the welcome drink. Be careful with it. Lots of reviewers have given it a thumbs down. Remember, it is spicy and fiery drink. Not exactly the palate of Delhi.  If you are visiting in a group, this is the best place to enjoy as you can order lots of dishes and sample each. Food will take time to arrive. Portions are sufficient for two people. Food is as close to authentic as possible. We ordered a dum biryani, chicken 65, Kheema Dosa and a dessert. Chicken 65 had huge and deep fired chunks. Dum Biryani had the correct amount of spices. Since we were the two of us, we could not order much. But we have decided to have a repeat visit soon.

Other points while visiting

This is the most interesting part of your visit. I will cover the specifics.

  • This is true blue family restaurant. With a bar. That means no dim lights, no hulla gulla crowd. A bachelors only group is rare. Lots of families in group enjoying their food and drinks in peace.
  • No loud music and no dance floor.
  • Someone is there at the entrance of the building to usher you in. Most of the times you will find space easily. Week ends will be a problem.
  • Parking is plenty. Paid parking. Again congestions and snarls at week ends.
  • Decor is all rustic feel. A huge window shows cooks in action. Service is fast. Nice soothing music and easy seating.
  • Separate section for a large group. They get privacy.
  • Premium experience at no so premium prices.
