Boat Art at Triveni Sangam Prayagraj

Daily hundreds of visitors arrive at Triveni Sangam Prayagraj, most of them for performing Asthi Visarjan. Perhaps after Kashi, Triveni Sangam is the most visited place for this important Hindu ritual. Other places where Asthi Visarjan is performed are Gaya, Puri, Pushkar, Rameswaram and Haridwar. Nashik, Ujjain and Mathura are a few other places. Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj is a vast location covering a few kilometers either side. Boats in this scenario become essential to ferry people from the at least five locations. Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj is a massive expanse.

Only unpowered boats here

In stark contrast to the ghat at Varanasi, which are motored, all the boats at Triveni Sangam are all manual. There could be hundreds of boats out there, all of the same small size. Manning a boat with a few people sitting is a demanding task. Most of the time, the sun is beating down hard which makes these trips a very hard work for the boatmen.

A little bit of art to cheer up
